Nestled in the heart of Groton, NY, Good Neighbor Grocery emerges as a beacon for local flavor and community engagement. Situated at 209 Peru Rd, this charming coffee shop is more than just a place to grab a bite; it’s an inviting hub where locals gather to enjoy artisan coffee, fresh baked goods, and hearty meals made with love and care.
As I stepped inside, I was welcomed by a cozy atmosphere filled with vibrant decor and the warm scent of freshly brewed coffee. The shelves are lined with locally-sourced products, giving it a unique touch that resonates with the community’s spirit. Their breakfast menu offers delicious options like the mouthwatering Bacon, Egg, & Cheese on your choice of house focaccia, English muffin, wrap, or gluten-free bread. Each bite is a testament to the freshness of their ingredients.
But the offerings don’t stop there. If you're in the mood for something lighter, the Kale, Egg, & Cheese pairs perfectly with a sunny disposition. And for those with a sweet tooth, their baked goods are not to be missed. The Brownie Cookie and Salted Dark Chocolate Chunk Cookie, priced at just $4.25, are utter indulgences. A customer once mentioned that the Ginger Molasses Cookie at $3.75 is a delightful treat that keeps you coming back for more.
Customer reviews reflect the overwhelmingly positive vibe that surrounds Good Neighbor Grocery. One patron raved about the phenomenal Broccoli Cheddar Soup, while another hailed the maple chicken sandwich as “tremendous.” The friendly ambiance is complemented by the knowledge that you’re enjoying meals made from ingredients sourced right from local farms.
Moreover, Good Neighbor Grocery is deeply vested in its community, hosting ongoing classes for various ages, including cooking demonstrations and art workshops. This commitment to fostering community ties is evident in their warm approach and engaging events, making it a place where you feel connected and welcomed.
In a world filled with impersonal chains, Good Neighbor Grocery stands out as a quaint, heartfelt alternative. It’s not just the food that makes this place special but the spirit of camaraderie and the sense of belonging it evokes. So, whether you’re grabbing a quick iced chai latte or savoring a fresh ham Swiss pickle wrap with homemade ingredients for lunch, each visit promises to be a memorable experience. I, for one, am eager to return and explore more of what this delightful establishment has to offer.

First time stopping in, the place is small but cozy. There's decent parking space as well, it wasn't overly crowded when I came here so I had no issues. Various selection of grocery items, and there's a menu for food and drinks. A little expensive but honestly it's not too bad when it's all local and homemade. I got a iced chai latte and it's pretty good, and I got the ham Swiss pickle wrap, the ham for it isn't deli ham, it's decent thin cut ham, and I believe the pickles and swiss cheese are homemade as well. The wrap was more of a crunch wrap style and they cut it in half as well so that was nice, and the wrap was tasty! It also came with pickles and some tortilla chips on the side, for $10 this was a perfect lunch! I plan to stop in again when I pass through, highly recommended!

Just a little ways off the route between Ithaca and Dryden is the town of Groton, NY. Across from its high school is a building covered with vertical red and green siding. Fronted with cheerfully painted wide windows, the front bears the name - The Good Neighbor Grocery. Inside is warm and inviting, decorated with colorful yet comfortably cozy items, shelves filled with locally or regionally produced food, art, self care items, and more. The menu is filled with delicious options to satisfy a variety of tastes and appetites, including kids’. There are plenty of weekly and seasonal offerings, plus baked goods and beverage choices. The store even has online ordering and a drive up window. In addition to all of this, there are ongoing classes for all ages and many interests (cooking, art, children’s camps, couples activities) as well as free gatherings. The Good Neighbor is rooted in and committed to its community and has something really special to offer.

My new favorite cafe! A warm little haven tucked into snow-kissed Groton, The Good Neighbor made the best sandwich I’ve had since moving to New York. The menu has several gluten-free options, clearly marked, which is extremely rare and precious in this part of the world, as my celiac partner has learned the hard way. Not to mention the shop is open on SUNDAYS (jaw, meet floor) and until 6pm Tues-Friday: a true unicorn among ponies. The service was impeccable—friendly, personable staff—and the little grocery had a remarkably good selection of meats and a nice collection of locally sourced teas, vegetables, pantry essentials, and sundry other goods. They even offer community events and workshops like focaccia making and charcuterie boards. So happy I stumbled across this cafe on a random drive down a winding country road—what a gem!

Good neighborhood also does pop up dinners and brunches. Check them out at Hopshire Brewing too. Wednesday nights now till spring with lots of delicious from scratch options. If you happen to be lucky enough to be there when they have their focaccia bread I highly recommend it.
